A sea expedition sent to investigate a string of mysterious sinkings finds the source in the Nautilus, an advanced submarine ruled by Captain Nemo (James Mason). When the mission goes wrong, the survivors are taken aboard Nemo’s vessel, where scientific ambition and private vengeance sit side by side beneath the ocean. Kirk Douglas is among the unwilling passengers, with Peter Lorre in the stranded company as the voyage moves through underwater ruins, diving expeditions, and the sealed corridors of a machine far ahead of its time.
