On the Town
ComedyMusicalRomance98 min
Three Navy sailors get 24 hours of shore leave in New York City and spend every minute chasing romance, landmarks, and one missed connection after another. Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra are among the shipmates racing across Manhattan, from subway turnstiles to the Empire State Building, while Betty Garrett is one of the New Yorkers who sends the day spinning in a new direction. The film uses the city itself as part of the action, weaving street locations, comic encounters, and musical numbers into a single day that keeps shifting from sightseeing to flirtation to near-disaster.
