Thirteen-year-old Mei Lee is trying to balance school, friends, and her mother’s expectations in 2002 Toronto when adolescence arrives with a family twist: strong emotions turn her into a giant red panda. Rosalie Chiang voices Mei, a Chinese-Canadian kid whose confidence gets tested by sudden body changes, family history, and the constant risk of poofing in public. Sandra Oh’s Ming is a loving but watchful mother, and the push-pull between them drives the movie as much as the panda does. Between temple duties, tight-knit friendships, and plans for a boy-band concert, Mei’s ordinary teenage life keeps colliding with something much harder to hide.
