The Seventh Seal
DramaFantasy97 min
Returning from the Crusades, Swedish knight Antonius Block (Max von Sydow) comes home to a country ravaged by the Black Death and challenges the hooded figure of Death to a game of chess. Traveling across medieval Sweden with his squire, he looks for some answer to his doubts about God, crossing paths with the itinerant players Jof and Mia and other people caught in plague, fear, and religious fervor. Ingmar Bergman shapes the story as a medieval allegory, where stark images of processions, superstition, and judgment follow Block’s search for meaning.
