Jodie Foster is Dr. Ellie Arroway, a SETI scientist whose years of listening to the cosmos finally yield the first extraterrestrial signal ever detected on Earth. As governments, media figures, and religious voices rush to interpret the message, Ellie is pulled from observatories in New Mexico into a widening public battle over evidence, belief, and who gets to speak for humanity. Matthew McConaughey co-stars as the discovery pushes the story beyond science and into politics, faith, and the uneasy line between proof and personal conviction.
