The House of the Spirits

DramaRomance145 min

At a Chilean estate, a hard-edged rancher marries a woman whose clairvoyant gifts shape the lives of their children and grandchildren as political unrest closes in. Jeremy Irons is the family patriarch, his authority stretching from the farm to the home, while Meryl Streep gives his wife an almost unearthly calm. Winona Ryder and Antonio Banderas carry the story into a younger generation, where romance, class conflict, and the country’s military upheaval begin to fracture the family’s private world.
