Posted alone to a remote outpost on the American frontier, Union lieutenant John J. Dunbar expects duty and isolation. Instead he finds an abandoned post, a vast prairie, and nearby Lakota whose presence turns his assignment into something far more uncertain. As Dunbar settles in, cautious contact gives way to conversation and uneasy trust, and he begins to see the land and the people around him differently. That shift pulls him away from the army that sent him west. With soldiers, settlers, and two worlds moving toward conflict, Dunbar has to choose where he stands. Kevin Costner stars in this story of loyalty, belonging, and the violent reach of expansion.
