A decision made in 1960s China sends shock waves into the present, where a close-knit group of scientists watch the laws of physics start to fail around them. Across continents and decades, five friends are drawn from cutting-edge research into a mystery involving secret signals, impossible results, and a threat larger than any one discovery. Jess Hong and Jovan Adepo are among the researchers trying to connect the pattern, while Benedict Wong’s unorthodox investigator presses at the edges of what governments, labs, and the natural world can explain. The story moves from particle accelerators and virtual worlds to buried history with global stakes.
