The Quiet Man

ComedyDramaRomance129 min

After leaving America for the Irish village where he was born, John Wayne’s Sean Thornton hopes to reclaim his family cottage and live quietly. In Innisfree, he falls for Mary Kate Danaher; Maureen O’Hara is fiery, proud, and caught in a family dispute over land, marriage, and her dowry. Sean’s return also stirs resentment from Mary Kate’s brother, turning a romance into a broader clash with village custom and local pride. John Ford places the story in 1920s rural Ireland, among pubs, fields, church ritual, and a tight-knit community that keeps close watch on everyone’s business.
