After the Yagyu clan frames official shogunate executioner Ogami Itto for disloyalty, he goes on the run with his infant son, Daigoro, and turns his sword against the men who ruined him. Tomisaburo Wakayama is Itto, carrying out hired killings while pushing his child from town to town, and Fumio Watanabe's Retsudo Yagyu looms over the conspiracy that cost him his place. The story moves through feudal Japan with clan politics, roadside encounters, and bursts of violence, all centered on the stark image of a father and son traveling together through a vendetta.
