The Queen's Gambit

Drama59 min per episode

In the mid-1950s, orphaned girl Beth Harmon discovers chess in the basement of her Kentucky orphanage and finds in it a rare sense of control. As her talent becomes impossible to ignore, she moves from local matches to the male-dominated tournament circuit, reading boards at a glance and taking on older, more experienced players. But Beth’s rise brings another pattern with it: the pills she first receives as a child, then alcohol, both feeding and threatening the focus she depends on. Across the 1960s, each victory opens a bigger stage and harsher scrutiny, as Beth tries to master the game without losing herself to the habits shadowing every move.
