ActionAdventureCrimeThriller100 min

Private eye John Shaft gets pulled into a Harlem kidnapping case when a crime boss wants his daughter found and brought home. Richard Roundtree is Shaft, a New York investigator whose search puts him between Black and Italian criminal factions and the police. Moses Gunn’s Bumpy brings the job — and the pressure — while Gordon Parks shoots the city streets with a hard, lived-in feel. Isaac Hayes’ “Theme from Shaft” became as much a part of the film’s identity as its trench coats, gunfights, and swagger.
