The Corn Is Green

Drama115 min

In a Welsh mining town, schoolteacher Lilly Moffat sees children and workers with almost no access to education and opens classes in her own home. Bette Davis is Miss Moffat, pushing ahead despite resistance from her housekeeper, her daughter, and a local squire who refuses to make room for the school. When she reads an essay by Morgan Evans, one of the boys, his rough poetry convinces her that he may be gifted enough for Oxford. What begins as a small act of defiance turns into a fight over who gets the chance to learn, and who is expected to stay in place.
