In Prohibition-era America, Ben Affleck is Joe Coughlin, a Boston outlaw and World War I veteran who heads south to Tampa, where rival gangs and the Ku Klux Klan are fighting for control of the rum trade. Betrayal pushes Joe deeper into organized crime even as he tries to build his own operation in Florida. Brendan Gleeson’s deputy-superintendent father ties him to the law he’s spent his life resisting, while Zoe Saldana and Elle Fanning figure into a story that moves between cold Boston streets and the heat of the Gulf Coast.
