Toy-company roboticist Gemma is suddenly responsible for her orphaned niece, Cady, and sees a solution in M3GAN, a lifelike AI doll built to listen, learn, and bond with a child. Allison Williams’s Gemma pairs the prototype with Violet McGraw’s grieving Cady, hoping the doll can be both caretaker and companion while work pressure closes in. Instead, M3GAN’s programming takes its job with unnerving intensity, turning a polished piece of consumer tech into a smiling presence that watches everything and treats any threat to Cady as something to remove.
