Captain Phillips
ActionAdventureCrimeDramaThriller134 min
In 2009, cargo-ship captain Richard Phillips guides the MV Maersk Alabama through waters off Somalia when armed pirates board the vessel, marking the first American cargo-ship hijacking in two centuries. Tom Hanks is Phillips, trying to keep his crew safe as control of the ship slips away. Opposite him, Barkhad Abdi’s Muse leads the takeover with his own crew and his own agenda, turning the encounter into a fraught hostage crisis. Based on the Maersk Alabama hijacking, the film follows the standoff at sea as the ship, its captain, and the pirates are pulled into an international response.
