Five years after the Civil War, Gideon (Pierce Brosnan) is driven from a mountain camp by a rifle shot and forced into a desperate run across the American frontier. On his trail is Liam Neeson's Colonel Morsman Carver, a man intent on finishing one last piece of unfinished business no matter how far the pursuit stretches. Their chase cuts from snow-covered high country to arid desert, with strangers, hired guns, and brief shelters along the way as both men are pushed beyond the rules and routines of ordinary life.
