After Brazil’s 1964 military coup, Afro-Brazilian poet and politician Carlos Marighella turns from public life to armed resistance as civil and human rights erode under the dictatorship. Seu Jorge is Marighella, who leaves behind his wife and son and becomes one of the regime’s most hunted enemies. As he goes underground, the story follows his efforts to strike back at the military government while evading capture and enduring an increasingly violent crackdown on opposition. Rooted in a defining chapter of Brazilian history, the film traces Marighella’s transformation from writer and lawmaker into a clandestine revolutionary.
