Great Expectations

ComedyDramaRomance111 min

Finn comes from modest means, but his fixation on the wealthy, unreachable Estella keeps pulling him toward a world that never quite lets him in. Ethan Hawke is Finn, a young artist whose rise takes him to contemporary New York, where Gwyneth Paltrow's Estella still hovers between intimacy and distance. Alfonso Cuarón’s update of Charles Dickens relocates the story to the 1990s, shaping Finn’s coming of age through class, ambition, and the adults who redirect his future, with Anne Bancroft and Robert De Niro among the figures at the edges of his life.
