Early-’90s Seattle frames a circle of twentysomethings who share an apartment building, a coffee shop, and a lot of uncertainty about love. Campbell Scott is Steve, whose relationship with Kyra Sedgwick’s Linda becomes one thread in a larger web of hookups, breakups, and stalled plans, while Bridget Fonda’s Janet keeps chasing the attention of local rocker Cliff (Matt Dillon). Written and directed by Cameron Crowe, the film ties its romantic misfires and everyday drift to the city’s rising grunge scene, with club shows and cameos from musicians including members of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains.
