When a priest is murdered on a street corner in a quiet Connecticut town, public outrage builds fast, and every witness points to a nervous out-of-towner as the killer. Dana Andrews is District Attorney Henry Harvey, assigned to the case and increasingly convinced the accused man may be innocent, even as police pressure and political opposition close in around him. Jane Wyatt and Lee J. Cobb are among the townspeople and officials caught up in the fallout, while Elia Kazan directs the true-story material through the murder investigation, the lineup, and the courtroom fight that follows.
