Angela's Ashes

Drama145 min

After the death of a child in America, an Irish Catholic family returns to 1930s Limerick and finds itself hemmed in by poverty, prejudice, and one cramped room after another. Emily Watson is the mother trying to keep her children fed and together, while Robert Carlyle's unemployed former I.R.A. father brings charm, pride, and a worsening dependence on drink. Seen through young Frank McCourt's eyes, the story stays close to the daily grind of hunger, church, school, and rain as the family faces the bleak routines and small humiliations of life in the slums.
