After a 31-0 FIFA loss turns American Samoa’s national team into a symbol of defeat, Dutch coach Thomas Rongen is hired to get them ready for the next World Cup qualifiers. Michael Fassbender is Rongen, an outsider dropped into a team with a long losing record and a lot riding on a fresh start. Kaimana and Oscar Kightley are part of the ensemble around the players, families, and local community that shape the team’s world. Directed by Taika Waititi, the story follows a rocky rebuilding job where soccer sits alongside pride, identity, and the pressure of representing home.
