Roma
Drama135 min
In 1970s Mexico City, Cleo is the live-in domestic worker keeping a middle-class household running while the family’s father is away for an extended stretch. Yalitza Aparicio is Cleo, whose days revolve around four children and Marina de Tavira’s Sofía, their mother, as life at home grows more unsettled. Drawing on Alfonso Cuarón’s own childhood memories, Roma stays close to the routines of cleaning, caregiving, and family strain, then widens to take in the upheavals beyond the front door. Shot in black and white, the film builds its portrait through intimate domestic detail and the shifting life of the city around it.
