By the Sea

DramaRomance122 min

In mid-1970s France, an American writer and his wife arrive at a quiet seaside hotel with a marriage already fraying. Brad Pitt is Roland, drifting between the bar and the page, while Angelina Jolie’s Vanessa, a former dancer, keeps herself at a careful remove. As their stay stretches on, the couple’s distance is shaped by the people around them, including a local café owner and a young pair of newlyweds. Jolie also directs, framing the story in sun-bleached coastal streets, still rooms, and the uneasy silences between two people traveling together.
