Before they become Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West, two very different young women meet at Shiz University in Oz. Cynthia Erivo is Elphaba, green-skinned and marked as an outsider from the start; Ariana Grande's Glinda arrives with status, polish, and instant popularity. Forced to share a room, they build an uneasy friendship that grows more complicated as school life gives way to larger forces around the Wizard's court. Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the stage musical frames their bond, rivalry, and diverging paths with songs, spectacle, and the social hierarchies of Oz.
