Nicole Kidman is Grace, a woman hiding from mobsters who arrives in the Colorado town of Dogville asking for refuge. The residents agree to protect her if she works for them, but each visit from police and each new wanted poster shifts the bargain further against her. John Hurt's narration threads through a community where charity, suspicion, and control keep changing hands. Told on a bare, stage-like set with chalk-marked streets instead of naturalistic scenery, the film makes Dogville’s social order as visible as the danger closing in from outside.
