Steel Magnolias

ComedyDramaRomance119 min

In a small Louisiana town, a newly arrived beautician finds work at the local salon and is folded into a close-knit group of women whose standing appointments double as a forum for gossip, celebration, and bad news. At the center are Sally Field's M'Lynn and her daughter Shelby (Julia Roberts), whose marriage and pregnancy are shadowed by the risks of Shelby's diabetes. Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, and Daryl Hannah round out the circle, as the film stays rooted in the rhythms of Southern community life, where teasing, worry, and loyalty all show up in the same room.
