When a faulty computer sends a passenger space shuttle hurtling straight toward the sun, Robert Hays is Ted Striker, once again dragged into an airborne emergency he has to somehow fix. Julie Hagerty's Elaine is aboard the mission too, turning the crisis into both a rescue operation and an awkward reunion. Moving the series from jetliners to space travel, the film keeps its disaster-movie spoofing locked on autopilot, piling absurd technical failures, stone-faced officials, and rapid-fire gags around Striker's attempt to get the shuttle back on course, with Lloyd Bridges and William Shatner adding to the command-center chaos.
