Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale), a wealthy Manhattan investment banker in 1987, spends his days comparing business cards, chasing impossible dinner reservations, and disappearing into a world of polished surfaces and interchangeable colleagues. Away from the office, he hides a psychopathic alter ego that spills into violent fantasies and possible murders, while the people around him barely seem to notice anything is wrong. As detective Donald Kimball (Willem Dafoe) starts asking questions, Bateman’s account of events grows slippery, and Mary Harron’s film keeps turning Wall Street vanity, consumer ritual, and status anxiety into something colder and more absurd.
