Don Ameche and Wilford Brimley are among the friends at the center of the discovery, while Steve Guttenberg’s local charter-boat captain gets drawn into a mystery involving strange visitors and cocoons hidden beneath the water. Ron Howard frames the setup around old age, friendship, and second chances, mixing broad comedy with science-fiction wonder as the residents try to make sense of what’s happening to their bodies and the people next door.
