The Reader
DramaMysteryRomance124 min
In late-1950s Germany, teenager Michael Berg begins a secret affair with Hanna, the older woman who helps him home after he falls ill. David Kross is the younger Michael, drawn into a relationship shaped as much by physical intimacy as by Hanna’s love of being read to, until she disappears without explanation. Years later, as a law student observing a war-crimes trial, he is stunned to find Hanna (Kate Winslet) among the defendants. Ralph Fiennes appears as the older Michael, carrying the memory of a relationship that collides with the crimes and silences of postwar Germany.
