A death in the Fisher family pulls Nate back to Los Angeles and into the funeral home run by his uneasy, grief-struck relatives. Peter Krause is Nate, the drifting eldest son, while Michael C. Hall’s David is the tightly wound brother who stayed behind to manage the mortuary. Ruth (Frances Conroy), their mother, struggles to hold the household together, and Lauren Ambrose’s Claire comes of age on the edges of embalming rooms, family arguments, and strangers’ grief. Each episode opens with a new death, then follows the Fishers as work, sex, resentment, and love keep spilling across the same family business.
