Bazil, a video-store clerk with a bullet lodged in his head, loses his job and home after a chance shooting. Dany Boon is the soft-spoken survivor, who finds refuge with a band of junkyard eccentrics living inside a mountain of scrap. When he spots the logos of the two weapons companies tied to his past, Bazil turns the group’s odd talents into an elaborate revenge plan; André Dussollier and Yolande Moreau are among the misfits backing him. Jean-Pierre Jeunet shapes the caper around scavenged contraptions, visual gags, and a handmade world built from rusted metal, tunnels, and castoff treasures.
