Sadao Abe is Akinori Kimura, a farmer in Hirosaki, Aomori, who tries to raise apples without chemical pesticides after a severe allergic reaction makes conventional methods untenable at home. Miho Kanno’s Mieko stands beside him as the family turns a local orchard into an all-or-nothing experiment in natural farming. As the harvests keep failing, the Kimuras sink into debt, strain their marriage, and face growing skepticism from neighbors and other growers. Yoshihiro Nakamura’s film keeps its focus on the daily work of the orchard and the cost of Akinori’s refusal to give up.
