Martial artist Goku returns to defend Earth as new enemies arrive from space, old grudges resurface, and every fight pushes him and his allies to new limits. Masako Nozawa is Goku in this reworked edition of the original Dragon Ball Z, which recuts and cleans up the story to track the manga more closely. Ryô Horikawa's Vegeta looms as rival, ally, and fellow Saiyan while Goku's circle expands from family and training partners to the planet's last line of defense.
