In 1950s New York, Therese Belivet is a department-store clerk and aspiring photographer whose chance meeting with an elegant customer opens into a secret romance. Their relationship moves from Manhattan shop floors to train rides and hotel rooms, with Christmas lights and New Year's parties giving way to the pressure of divorce, social scrutiny, and the risks of being seen together.
