After years of debt following the 2008 financial crash, Newcastle father Ricky sees a way forward in the gig economy: buy a van, sign on as a self-employed delivery driver, and hope the long hours finally give his family some stability. Kris Hitchen is Ricky, whose new job leaves less and less room for home, while Debbie Honeywood's Abby spends her days as an overworked carer, moving from house to house on a schedule that never quite fits the people who need her. Directed by Ken Loach, the story stays close to the daily strain on a household being pulled apart by work, money, and the promise of being your own boss.
