Charlie McCready is an overprotective father who decides the best way to keep an eye on his college-bound daughter is to throw himself into her social world. Bob Crane's Charlie tries to keep up with a rowdy teenage crowd through beachside volleyball, waterskiing, and bodysurfing, all while interfering with her relationship and trying to steer her away from the people he distrusts. Barbara Rush appears alongside him in the family orbit, and Kurt Russell is part of the younger crowd Charlie can’t quite understand. The comedy comes from a dad pushing too hard to stay involved, and watching his efforts backfire almost immediately.
