After time in a psychiatric facility following her mother’s death, Anna returns home to find that her father is now engaged to Rachel, the former nurse who once cared for her mother. Emily Browning is Anna, trying to piece herself back together as the house around her shifts in unsettling ways, while Elizabeth Banks’s Rachel brings an unnervingly calm presence to the family’s new arrangement. When Anna is visited by her mother’s ghost, warning that Rachel means harm, she and her sister Alex begin digging into the past, as grief, suspicion, and the supernatural start to blur together.
