Superstar

ComedyRomance82 min

Molly Shannon is Mary Katherine Gallagher, an orphaned Catholic schoolgirl at St. Monica High who wants one thing above all: to be kissed soulfully. Certain that fame will somehow get her there, Mary Katherine throws herself into prayers, fantasies, and increasingly awkward attempts at becoming a superstar. Built around Shannon’s Saturday Night Live character, the film follows her through school crushes, daydreams, and public humiliations with the same hyperphysical, tightly wound energy that made the sketches memorable. Will Ferrell and Elaine Hendrix are part of the school-world orbit around Mary Katherine’s earnest, offbeat pursuit of romance and recognition.
